DOMINICAN HIGH SCHOOL
CLIENT: Dominican High School in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin
Application:Acrylic, oil paint, and carved wood on canvas 10’ x 48’
CLIENT REQUEST: To create a timeless work of art that would pictorially represent the core values of Dominican High School, faith, truth, justice, community, and compassion, and the school’s motto, “Dominican as Home.”
FOCUS: I wanted to create a meaningful work of art that would engage both teenagers and adults. I depicted the school’s core values in symbolic ways that challenge viewers to reflect on the images to discover what they represent.
CHALLENGES: I created six different motifs, including 25 painted figures each representing part of the core values. Each of the six motifs were executed in a variety of painterly styles. I researched and studied the styles of historical artists including Gauguin, Bonnard, Toulouse Lautrec, Turner, and Matisse
