LIBRARY'S CHILDREN’S READING ROOM

CLIENT: The newly constructed library in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin held a national competition to have a mural painted directly on the walls in their children's reading room.

APPLICATION: Acrylic and oil paint directly on walls with trompe l'oeil painted effects.

CLIENT REQUEST: 5 finalists were selected to give conceptual presentations for the interior of this space.  Voted upon by the Library Board, Timothy Haglund Studio was awarded this project.

FOCUS: I wanted to bring vibrant colors and imagery into the room and create an environment for story telling.

CHALLENGES: I utilized bright Moroccan colors in a painted striped fabric tent to draw attention away from the 5 large windows.  With 33" of wall width between the windows I created life size circus animals breaking through the painted tent.  The painted environment has over 50 creatures and 6 portraits of children from the surrounding neighborhood.
